Why is Waste Management important for your company?

Implementing effective waste management measures involves considering the 4Rs: Reducing the use of resources; Repairing and refurbishing products; Reusing resources; and Recycling waste and/or end-of-life products. This means managing how and where waste is generated and potentially reduced or recycled within your company’s operations. Reducing the generation of waste, in particular waste requiring treatment or disposal, can lead to lower waste handling costs and raw materials requirements.

When considering waste management measures, keep in mind that simple first steps like behaviour change (e.g. observing dosage recommendations in production processes) can often result in cost savings for little or no investment. Efforts can also be directed at specific processes or activities, such as product packaging. For example, waste disposal costs can be reduced if packaging waste is segregated and recycled rather than being disposed at landfills.
