Recommendation QF4d (partly)

What we recommend for your company:

A waste monitoring system, ideally as part of an overall resource efficiency monitoring and review system, is key to tracking your company’s progress in minimising waste and to continuously adapt its waste management measures.

As part of your company’s waste management assessment, it is to be expected that a baseline (your company’s current waste generation and disposal profile) was developed. The baseline is the main reference point for a monitoring system, as it is used to determine the improved performance of any implemented measures.

Even a simple monitoring system (e.g. reviewing your waste generation 1-2 times per year) will play a key role in ensuring that implemented waste minimisation measures perform as planned as well as helping to calculate the potential of newly identified opportunities. Such information is important for internal reporting purposes but also if seeking support from financial institutions or for customer sustainability reporting.

Your company could also consider applying its experience with its waste monitoring system to the development of an overall resource efficiency monitoring and review process, as outlined above in the resource efficiency strategy recommendation.
